In late December 2016 I began this blog hoping to focus more on the financial aspects of our life and our journey toward financial freedom one day. I pumped out 4 articles in a month and thought I was set to continue on that path…. then I had to make a decision regarding how I was to spend my free time.
The problem was, this free time was almost nonexistent.
Renaissance Millennial was placed on the backburner temporarily. Things are about to change for our family though. Here’s just a taste of what’s ahead for us;
House Hacking our way into an expensive city
We’re making the move from rural northwest Oklahoma to downtown Oklahoma City. We’ve bought a fixer upper duplex in an up and coming neighborhood. What better way to live in an expensive area than to have someone else pay your mortgage?
DIY’ing our duplex
Deferred maintenance? Check. Bad remodel? Check. Great price, area, and potential? Check, check, check.
After 10 years in the fire service (5 full-time, 5 volunteer), I am making the shift from a firefighter to working for a rising young wood window restoration and manufacturing company.
MASSIVE PAY CUT
One of the questions I’ve been asked several time is something to the extent of
Minimizing our possessions
2000 sq ft with a 1000 sq ft garage to 950 sq ft with a 250 sq ft garage. So much must go!
Closing a thriving side job
After the move we’re unsure of the direction 3 Nails Designs will take. We’ll likely not be continuing it, at least in its current form, due to time constraints and a shift in priorities. It’s been difficult to stomach the thought of walking away from a business after so much effort has been invested, the monthly income it’s been producing, and the emotional you have with something you’ve built from scratch.
A huge diversity shift and pushing the financial reset button on our life are all on tap for us over the coming months too.
Until recently Renaissance Millennial was poised to fade into the distance. After we told family and friends about the upcoming move, there were two instances where someone asked if I was going to continue this blog. I was then flooded with ideas I wanted to share so here’s my new goal:
I will write at least 1 article per month minimum for the remainder of 2017.
Easy, huh? It’s only 4 articles. Momentum will follow. I can do this.
